South Drogheda/East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee has welcomed the news that work is due to commence on a new footpath linking the Rathmullan Road to the Boardwalk on the Boyne Greenway.
McKee told Drogheda life that he has received confirmation from Meath County Council that work will shortly commence on the provision of a footpath from the Rathmullan Road down to the Boyne Greenway Boardwalk.
“I’m told that design work is ongoing and that work is expected to start before the end of March” he said.
“This is good news for residents on the Rathmullan Road in estates such as Highlands as, when complete, the footpath will make it so much safer for pedestrians to access the boardwalk.

“I continue to raise this important issue on behalf of local residents and have asked that the work be carried out as swiftly as possible” he concluded.
In their correspondence with Councillor McKee, Meath County Council said that design work for the proposed new footway/cycleway close to Highlands estate is ongoing.
“A section 85 agreement will be needed with Louth County Council and the documentation associated with this is being prepared” they said.
It is envisaged that works will commence in Q1 of 2022 to be completed within the approved timeframe.
