St Oliver’s CC student Leah Newman has been awarded a prestigious Naughton Scholarship having achieved a perfect score of 625 points in her Leaving Certificate and is going on to study Engineering in Trinity College.
The Naughton Scholarships promote the study of engineering, science and technology at third level by students in Ireland. Each year Leaving Certificate students can apply for a scholarship if they intend on studying science, engineering or technology at third level that year.
Leah has a proven track record in STEM, having been awarded the SciFest Maths in Science Award in 2024 for the project ‘Out of this world rollercoasters – A Mathematical Investigation into the factors which influence rollercoaster motion and how these vary on other planets’.
She also won the 2024 Boston Scientific Medical Devices Award along with fellow student Craig Lawlor for their project –‘Can arthritis sufferers benefit from leverage?'

There is a strong tradition in the STEM subjects in St. Oliver's and Leah was able to study a large number of these for her exams. She achieved H1 grades in Maths, Applied Maths, Physics and Technology, as well as Irish, Spanish and Biology.
Leah is an outstanding student and everyone in St. Oliver's is so proud of her and her achievements to date. We wish her the very best in her future studies.
