Deputy Fergus O’Dowd has said that further delays to works on the promised Mell Walkway are likely and he puts this down to Louth County Council providing the relevant Government Department with insufficient information.
“This project should have commenced last year and it now looks likely that we are going to lose a further summer without a cent being spent” he said.
“This is not only disheartening but completely avoidable, this beautiful stretch on the north side of the Boyne will greatly benefit from this scale of investment and any development will have a subsequent knock on effect for business in the area.
Deputy O’Dowd asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Deputy Heather Humphreys, for an update on the project and was told yesterday that Louth County Council were approved for funding of €200,000 in February 2020 for the development and enhancement of the Boyne Greenway but as yet no funding has been drawn down on the project.

“Louth County Council has requested permission to revise the scope of the approved works and specific information in this regard was received on 16th April” The Minster said in a written reply.
“This information was not sufficient to facilitate an assessment of the request to change the approved project and further details were sought.
“This detail was provided as part of a revised application from Louth County Council on 17th June and this information is now being considered by officials from my Department.
Deputy O’Dowd told Drogheda Life that he found this unacceptable and said that he will “…continue to press all sides for a suitable outcome.”
