A new app, specially designed to offer cash rewards to people who shop local, is on its way to Drogheda with a release date of 25th July 2020.
Called Tapit, the new app rewards shoppers and helps retailers promote their business, it was created by two young entrepreneurs, Garrett Gunn and Gavin Duffy both from Cavan. Prior to a nationwide release, they are launching their platform in Drogheda with support from Drogheda & District Chamber.
Tapit is like other loyalty programmes that people have become used to using, but with two differences. Firstly, cash rewards are gathered straight-away. There’s no waiting for points to turn into vouchers.
Secondly, there is no need to search bags, pockets or wallets looking for your card to get stamped or swiped. It happens automatically.

This makes Tapit an easy way for retailers to reward loyalty and shoppers to show their loyalty to local shops as the recovery gets under way.
A user simply collects a cash amount every time they shop using their linked debit or credit card with the retailers on the app. The shopper gets an instant alert informing them how much cash has been earned after they’ve purchased.
Once a threshold of €25 is reached, it may be deposited straight back onto their bank account or credit card account.
“We wanted to create a rewards programme for shoppers that was accessible for everyone. No frantically digging around your bag or checking points for the little card.” said Garrett Gunn, Co-Founder of Tapit.
“We also wanted to make it attractive to retailers. There’s no additional training with this initiative. Retailers have another platform to advertise on, one they don’t pay for until a transaction is made. It’s win-win for everyone, particularly as we begin to open up after our lockdown.”
So, how does it work? It’s easy, the shopper downloads the app on their smartphone and enters their debit or credit card details into the app. All card details entered are encrypted and stored securely. When a shopper purchases something in one of the stores on the app, they get a notification to say a cash amount has been deposited into their Tapit account.
“Our goal is to help businesses of all sizes with marketing to mobile users – Tapit App works effectively for businesses with their marketing budgets as they can exactly qualify their marketing spend as it’s a Pay on Transaction service. No other marketing channel can offer that at present.” said Gavin Duffy, Co-Founder of Tapit.
The Vice President of Drogheda & District Chamber, Robert Murray said: “If we want our local town to have shops, as a community, we need to support them. This is a great initiative to support retailers as they begin to open their doors and it’s a win for customers too. That’s why we’re behind the July launch of this app. It’s clever shopping.”
The Drogheda shops and businesses will start on the app on launch date include Scholars Townhouse Hotel, The Design Gallery, Five Good Things, Tuites Butchers, The Crafty Fox, Fifty4 Seafood Bar, The Golf Bag, Peter Street Pharmacy, Kierans’ Deli, Kevin McAllister Electrical, West End Salon, Scotch Hall Shopping Centre (gift cards) and Brian Reynolds Mazda & Fiat with more retailers expected to join.
Anyone wanting to register their interest, as either a retailer or a shopper, can visit https://tapit.ie and add your name to the waitlist. You’ll be the first to be informed of any news.
Those who register early are in with a chance to win one of three €50 vouchers to be spent in participating retailers.
