Music at the Gate has been named a Local Hero by Drogheda Retail Park for bringing free arts events to the streets of the town.

It topped the search for Drogheda’s most deserving community workers for its events at St Laurence’s Gate.

Drogheda Retail Park’s asset manager Sigma Retail Partners launched the Local Heroes competition as part of their 2019 ‘Do Well by Doing Good’ corporate responsibility programme.

Music at the Gate was adjudged the most deserving of the award for bringing entertainment to the streets of Drogheda, and has now received a prize of €1,000 from Drogheda Retail Park towards its work.

Music at the Gate is a free, family focused event that brings inclusive, accessible, friendly and relaxed entertainment to Laurence's Gate in Drogheda.

Each event features local drama, music, and dance groups, and artists from near and far are invited join together to entertain rapidly growing crowds.

“Music at the Gate is about community, but each event costs in the region of €1,000 to run,” said organiser Darragh Ó Héiligh.

“I am very proud of my town. It has such incredible talent and I'm very thankful Music at the Gate helps bring these amazing abilities to Drogheda's streets.”

According to Sigma’s Freda O’Donnell, asset manager at Drogheda, “Music at the Gate is a most deserving winner and we are delighted to back their wonderful work.”
