Mosney Village has sponsored a roadside billboard campaign promoing the Drogheda Unit of The Irish Coast Guard to highlight their search and rescue service, and the numbers to call in the event of an emergency.

The Coast Guard Unit and Support section is responsible for the management, resourcing, and training of the volunteer Coast Guard Units on the coast.

The volunteer Coast Guard Units provide a very important local maritime emergency response with 44 Units around the coast made up solely from local communities. There are approximately 940 volunteers in all.

Coast Guard Units provide a coastal search capability on the shore. In addition some units are trained to provide a cliff rescue service, boat rescue and support capability and also Unmanned Aerial Vehicle search capability.

Coast Guard Units are also available to enhance community resilience during emergencies; for instance, storms or situations such as COVID 19 when requested by Principal Response Agencies/Principal Emergency Services.

Their Vision is to have a safe, sustainable maritime transport sector, and to facilitate competitive maritime transport services and safe use of the marine environment. Their Misson is Delivering a world class search and rescue, maritime casualty, and pollution response service.

Do you have some free time to become a volunteer with this emergency service based at Horse Lane Drogheda providing boat and land search rescue response 24 hours a day, 365 days a year?

This billboard campaign serves to create awareness to the residents and locals of the importance of water safety and how to contact the Drogheda Coastguard in the event of an emergency.

Mosney Village is set in acres of open green space along the coastline of East County Meath. Its unique setting provides all residents with their own private home, and an adjoining woodland walk to the beautiful Mosney Beach.

The unique layout of Mosney Village lends itself to social interaction amongst neighbours and friends. The Drogheda Unit of the Irish Coastguard is one of Mosney Village’s many local and national organisations that come under the heading of ‘Friends of Mosney Village’ that help bring awareness to residents on a wide range of educational training.

At Mosney Village, residents of all nationalities are part of a community that is locally driven and locally responsive to promote inclusion and integration. The billboard campaign, which stretches across prime locations in Louth and Meath, aims to create awareness for the organisation.

Dermot McConnoran from the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit said ‘The Drogheda Coast Guard unit members would like to extend their gratitude to Mosney Village for this fantastic opportunity. The billboard campaign will highlight their volunteers and equipment to the local community. Where most Coast Guard units are based along our Coastline, Drogheda Coast Guard unit is based in the heart of our town, along the banks of the River Boyne.

This is an ideal location to oversee water safety for our local communities in and around Meath and Louth.

Drogheda Coast Guard would like to extend their thanks to the Drogheda Port Company for the use of their facilities for the photoshoot.

If you see someone in trouble in or near the water, please dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard. For further details on the initiative see www.mosneyvillage.ie or www.gov.ie/en/department-of-transport/policy-information/the-irish-coast-guard
