Auntú Party local election candidate Michael O’Dowd says that while canvassing in Drogheda recently, numerous residents have expressed their fears about coming into the town centre.

“It's disheartening to hear that such perceptions are deterring people from enjoying our community” he told Drogheda Life. “I believe we must address these concerns urgently.

“To restore confidence and enhance safety, I propose the introduction of Community Safety Wardens in the town centre. This initiative has successfully improved public safety in other cities and could do the same for Drogheda.

“These wardens would provide a visible, reassuring presence, liaise closely with An Garda Síochána, and actively work to maintain a secure environment.

“I am calling on the Louth County Council, the Drogheda Implementation Board, local traders, and the Gardaí to collaboratively lead this initiative.

“It is essential that we unite to secure the necessary funding and support for this program. Together, we can transform the town centre into a place where all residents and visitors feel safe and welcomed.

“Let's take action now to ensure that Drogheda becomes a safer, more vibrant place to live, work, and visit. With the support of these key stakeholders, we can address the current concerns and work towards a thriving community.”
