Man in Drogheda Court accused of murdering his mother in Ardee

A 32-year-old man, Tomasz Piotrowska, appeared before Drogheda District Court this morning charged with the murder of his mother, Elzbieta Piotrowska, on Tuesday at her home in Ardee.

Fifty seven year old Elzbieta Piotrowska’s badly mutilated body was found by a neighbour in her home in Ardee, on Tuesday morning.

Tomasz Piotrowska, who lived at Cherrybrook, Ardee, was brought by Gardaí to Drogheda District Court this morning charged with her murder.

Garda Sergeant James McCumiskey told the court that Piotrowska was arrested at Drogheda Garda Station last night (09/01/2019) and charged with murder at 9.21pm. The accused replied “no comment.”

He was remanded in custody to appear via a video link at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday, January 17th.

The accused’s solicitor, Paddy Goodwin, expressed concerns about Piotrowska’s mental health and asked that he be given appropriate medical attention. He also applied for free legal aid. Judge John Cheatle granted both requests.

The case was adjourned to 17 January.
