Champions - the Lourdes Brass Band prior to their award-winning performance at the North of Ireland Band Championships over the weekend.
The multi award winning Lourdes Brass Band have struck gold once again, this time at the North of Ireland Band Championships which took place over the weekend in Armagh.
The test piece selection of “Purcell Variations” by Kenneth Downie was performed to a high standard by all the competing bands and the unenviable task of ranking the performances fell to the Adjudicator Mr. Alan Fernie.
The Lourdes Brass Band from Drogheda were delighted with Alan’s decision to award the Band first place scoring 187pts. The Lourdes Band’s Musical Director Professor Michael Alcorn also gained additional recognition and award for his conducting skills.
Professor Alcorn congratulated the entire band on their performance and commended the fine playing of soloists Mark Newman (Principal Cornet) and LeeAnne Kelly (Principal Tenor Horn) for their superb delivery on the day.

The Band’s newest recruits, who have just recently transitioned from the Lourdes Youth Band to the senior band also gained special praise from Professor Alcorn.
As ever the hospitality in the Armagh Market Place Theatre from both the N.I.B.A. event organisers and the Brass Band community was very welcome and much appreciated.
