Fianna Fáil Councillor for Drogheda and East Meath, Stephen McKee, has welcomed the latest round of funding grants from the Carranstown Environmental Projects Grant Scheme which were presened last night.
“As Chairman of the Community Liaison Committee, I am delighted to welcome this funding of just under €300,000 to local sporting clubs and community groups” he said.
“Over the past number of years, more than 65 community groups have benefitted from the Fund, thereby allowing them to develop and improve their facilities for the many people in our communities that they serve.
“Sporting organisations representing GAA, Soccer, Rugby, Athletics, Basketball, and Community Games Clubs have all benefited from the fund as well as groups representing the arts, heritage, schools, youth and the senior citizens of the locality.

”As Chairperson of the Committee that administers the fund, I will continue to support local groups with funding under the Scheme along with my fellow Committee Members.
“The Indaver Community Grant Scheme will re-open over the next few months to new applications from groups and clubs in the local area and I look forward to supporting those applications.”
Under Indaver’s planning conditions a levy is imposed for every tonne that is accepted into the Waste-to-Energy facility at Carranstown between Drogheda and Duleek and the funding is made available to the local community in Meath.
The Fund is managed by the Community Liaison Committee of which Cllr. McKenna is a member.
“There is obviously a limited fund available, but I am pleased that so many local groups and organisations continue to benefit each year from the Scheme. They make a huge contribution to our communities” Cllr. McKenna said.
“So many very worthwhile projects have been carried out with significant funding coming from the Scheme. The Duleek-Bellewstown Community Facility is one such example of a brilliant project that has come to fruition.
“Our local sports clubs such as St. Mary’s Donore, St. Colmcille’s and Duleek AFC are also clubs that have benefited from the scheme to undertake important works, such as the new pitch development at Duleek Soccer Club.
I encourage all local community groups and clubs to apply for the new round of funding when it opens later this year.”
