Do you ever wonder about the purpose and meaning of life? What is your vision for a future society? What are the activities that advance this vision? Can we realistically be hopeful?
Local man Lawrence Staudt has thought a lot about these questions and reckons he has come up with some of the answers and will be exploring them further at a seminar at the Barbican Centre this Sunday, July 28th at 3.00pm.
Lawrence has also written a book on the topic “That’s Why I’m Here - Thoughts on the Purpose and Meaning of Life" and The €10 registration fee (payable on the day) includes a copy of the book. He has written several books as a member of Drogheda Creative Writers.
Staudt grew up in America where, after observing the unsustainable nature of present-day society, he and his wife began their journey toward living lightly on the planet. They moved to Ireland with their young family in 1985, where he was a founder member of the Irish Wind Energy Association.

Lawrence worked at the ESB for ten years and was the first CEO of the Irish Wind Energy Association. He spent the last ten years of his career teaching engineering at DkIT where he founded their MSc in Renewable Energy Systems programme, headed up a renewable energy research centre, and put up the large campus wind turbine.
His hope remains to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society, one that is aware of its purpose and achieves a spiritual/material balance. His hope is to offer this seminar two or three times a year so, if this Sunday doesn’t suit, don’t despair!
