Midsummer’s Day is celebrated throughout Europe but it is a particularly important day for Lithuanians who celebrate with traditional activities such as singing, storytelling and dancing.
The Louth Lithuanian community will be celebrating this special day with a family fun Fair to be held at Dundalk Racecourse from 11.00 am on the 22th of June and everyone is invited.
Activities will include telling tales, searching for the magic fern blossom, greeting the rising midsummer sun and washing the face with the morning dew. These customs originate from pagan culture and beliefs and the organisers are extending an invitation to people of all cultures to join them in their midsummer celebrations.

“This event for everybody” a spokesperson said. “Let us all just have a nice family fun day out. Have some fun with your kids, have a BBQ and nice sit and enjoy a lovely day. This day is called St. John's day and we will have lots of games for kids, songs, dance and fun.”
Afterwards there will be a concert with well-known Lithuanian singer Andrius Mamontovas in the Imperial Hotel. Andrius represented Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 and has gone on to record and release other tracks, and have performed in venues in Ireland, Germany, Iceland and Croatia among others.
