It’s shaping up to be a Christmas like no other in Drogheda. As well as the new improved Christmas lights which will be switched on this coming Friday there'll be a special evening of festive fun starting at 5.00pm, including music and singing to welcome Santa back to town.
In addition to the various activities scheduled for the turning on of the Christmas lights, LoveDrogheda has installed a new town centre music network to add to the festive atmosphere in the streets.
Already set up on Droghedas' main thoroughfare, West Street, the music will soon be extended to other streets in the town centre.
“Don't worry” said LoveDrogheda’s Chairman Niall Kierans, it is only going to be used for special occasions/events and on the occasional weekend. It is our intention to keep the use of our sound system to a discrete minimum.

“This is all part of our ongoing plan to make and keep Drogheda welcoming and vibrant' adds Board member Leo Monahan.
“Our Christmas lights are at a standard that has not been seen probably for decades and we plan to continue to invest in our town as best we can.
“In addition to our gift card, launched last Christmas, the 10 seating parklets positioned around the town centre and the first of six mythological themed wall murals, we feel that we are now positioning Drogheda as one of the most progressive towns” adds BID CEO Trevor Connolly, “not only in the Northeast, but possibly nationally too.”
So this Christmas, Covid permitting, there should be no reason to not enjoy what Drogheda has to offer to visitors and locals alike.
This year, of all years, it is more important than ever to support local businesses this Christmas. The obvious way to do this is to buy all your presents and Christmas fare in local shops.
If you don’t like shopping, or simply haven’t a clue what presents to buy, the Love Drogheda Gift card is the perfect solution. Just decide how much you want to spend and then the recipient can choose exactly what they want. Christmas sorted!
