The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) has launched its 7th annual “Walk While You Can” campaign, calling on people to take part in one of the 39 organised walks around the Country.
Walks organised locally include the Boyne Walk While You Can at St. Dominic's Park in Drogheda starting at midday on October 26th, Eileen's Walk in Laytown on Saturday, October 19at 11.00 am and St. Pat's GAA Club, Stamullen on Saturday October 26/at 13.00.
With the number of MND cases reaching a record high of 468, IMNDA’s support is more vital than ever, with 85% of their funding dependent on fundraising initiatives like this campaign.
Walk While You Can was first inspired by the late Fr. Tony Coote in 2018, who, despite his MND diagnosis, walked 550km from Donegal to Cork, raising €700,000 for MND. The campaign has continued annually, raising an additional €500,000, including €150,000 in 2023 alone. This year, with unprecedented demand for services, IMNDA hopes to further build on this legacy.

Emphasising the campaign’s importance, especially in light of the record number of MND cases in Ireland, IMNDA CEO Kevin Burn said:
“Motor Neurone Disease impacts not only those diagnosed but also their families and friends. Right now, we are supporting more people than ever before, and the need continues to grow.
“By taking part in Walk While You Can, you are helping provide essential care and support to hundreds of families in need. Every contribution makes a tangible difference.”
IMNDA invites people of all ages and fitness levels to join the Walk While You Can 5K, either individually or as part of a group, to show solidarity with the MND community. Participants are encouraged to register online at www.imnda.ie or find a local walk in your area HERE
