Deputy Ged Nash.
Labour Deputy Ged Nash has described IDA’s commitment to develop advanced building solutions to attract foreign direct investment to Drogheda as “very positive” and one that has been “many years in the making”.
Welcoming the commitment contained in the IDA’s 2021-2024 plan published during the week, Deputy Nash said;
“This commitment took many years to obtain and represents a step change in the IDA’s thinking on Drogheda in terms of our area’s offering for potential inward investment.
“This work has been ongoing since 2014 and it was a challenge to change IDA’s perception of our town and that of senior government officials in various departments.

“The commitment to develop advance units to house FDI firms is very positive and given the fact that Business Minister Leo Varadkar told me as recently as three months ago that there are no plans to build units in Drogheda, this is particularly welcome.
“It also shows that this was a decision made ultimately by the IDA and not the government.
“Drogheda currently has a very limited supply of property to market to potential investors.
“For the plan to be rolled out, sites need to be purchased and I will continue to engage with IDA on this.
“Ideally land just off the M1 and the planned Port Access Route would be earmarked for such development and this needs to happen quickly.”
