Heritage Walking Tour of Drogheda “From the Marsh to the Dale”

Front Page

Dating from the mid-19th Century, Ship Street used to be home to 40 families.

Community Historian, Brendan Matthews, will lead an historical and heritage tour of the Marsh Road and Dale area of Drogheda on Wednesday evening next, June 16th beginning outside the D Hotel at Scotch Hall at 7.30pm.

Titled “From the Marsh to the Dale”, Brendan will lead the Walk ‘n’ Talk along the Marsh Road past the old Fever Hospital and on to the area of the former Drogheda Ship Yard and to the 19th century vernacular houses at Ship Street.

From there, the Walk n Talk will proceed under the Dublin Road and up Poor House Lane past the old Union Workhouse Hospital and over to the wonderful area of Sunnyside and St. Mary’s Cottages.

From there, the Walk ‘n’ Talk will go down the 101 steps into the magnificent Dale area of Drogheda. This event will take around 1 hour and Brendan will bring the evening to a close at the foot of Mary Street at the Dublin Road.

There is no-Charge for this event; however, Donations for the continued research and study of community history will be greatly received on the evening.
