Boyne AC had four athletes in action at the recent Leinster Schools Championships which took place in the Tullamore Harriers Stadium, with great performances from each one of them.

Representing their respective secondary schools, the young athletes qualified through the North Leinster event to reach this round of the competition, with those finishing in the top three now progressing to the national final.

First to the track on Thursday last was talented mid distance runner Dara Ellie Winters, who is making a great return to form following a long spell with injury.

Competing in the minor girls 800m event, Dara ran a tactical race which saw her sit on the shoulder of the two leading runners for most of the two-lap race.

They managed to pull away from her in the closing stages however, but Dara battled hard to ensure a bronze medal finish, clocking an impressive 2.30.22 for her efforts.

Jack Garvey continues to improve with every race, but it was not meant to be for this determined young man, as he finished just outside the medals in fifth in the Junior Boys 800m race.

The older athletes were in action on Saturday last, with talented sprinter Sean Stratton showing his fine skills as he ran a new PB time of 10.94s in the senior boys 100m sprint, winning the bronze medal, and booking his place in the All Irelands.

Also finishing in the Bronze medal position, Oliver Carolan threw 36.36m in the intermediate boys Javelin, and he also now progresses to the national finals.

It wasn't all about the juveniles however, as some of Boyne ACs seniors took to the roads to compete in some local 5k races.

Rob Fitzgerald was delighted with his new PB time of 19.46 in the Marist 5k in Dundalk, while club mate Jullian Connor ran well to finish in 27.04.

Catherine Tiernan Bell continues to lower her race times, as she ran a super 20.27 in the Bob Heffernan 5k.

Boyne ACs own 5k race takes place on Friday the 16th June at 8pm, with a new fast route on offer. Entries are available now through myrunresults
