Cara Evans of Tredagh Boxing Academy jumps for joy as her hand is raise to crown her 2025 All-Ireland Girl 2 Champion.

Tredagh Boxing Academy continued its run of success recently with three of its young athletes representing both the club and Leinster at the All-Ireland Boy/Girl 1-2-3 Boxing Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin.

Cara Evans delivered one of the performances of the championship in her All-Ireland Final. Facing the same opponent who defeated her in last year’s semi-final – and the reigning national champion – Evans entered the ring with clear determination.

Over three action-packed rounds, Cara displayed tactical brilliance, her timing, angles, and inside exchanges highlighted a maturity beyond her years, and her hand was deservedly raised at the end to crown her the 2025 All-Ireland Girl 2 Champion. The victory was met with jubilation from her travelling supporters and marked a milestone in what has been a year of significant progress and development.

Evans now joins Grace Conway and Michael James McDonagh as the club’s All-Ireland Champions for 2025, alongside silver medallists Chloe Sheelan and Emma O’Gorman.

Among the standouts was P.J. Mc Cullough, who faced a formidable opponent in the semi-final – the reigning All-Ireland Champion from Olympic Boxing Club in Galway.

Despite having only taken up competitive boxing in November, McCullough delivered an exceptional performance, pushing the champion over three intense rounds. His aggressive, high-energy style impressed many in attendance, with some believing he had edged the final round.

Although the decision went to his opponent – who went on to retain the national title – McCullough’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable, having claimed titles at the Louth Open, Armagh/Down Open, and the Leinster Championships this season.

Chloe Sheelan reached the final of her category where she faced a highly experienced and powerful opponent but showed immense grit and composure throughout the bout. Sheelan demonstrated the skill and determination that have made her a rising star but narrowly missed out on the title, her silver medal at the All-Irelands capped off a stellar season, which also saw her win the Louth Open, Armagh/Down Open, and Leinster titles.

In further positive news for Tredagh Boxing Academy, Andrew Mathews and Ceejay Sheelan have been selected to join the Leinster High Performance Development Squad, a testament to their potential and hard work.

The duo began training with the elite squad in Carlow over the weekend and will now participate in high-level sessions each week as part of the province’s development programme. Their inclusion reflects both their individual promise and the growing reputation of Tredagh Boxing Academy as a hub for emerging boxing talent.

Special recognition goes to the dedicated coaches at Tredagh Boxing Academy, as well as to the athletes’ families and sparring partners, whose support has been instrumental in these achievements.
