Thanking his fellow members for their vote at tonight’s Borough Council meeting Mayor Godfrey commiserated with Cllr. Joanna Byrne saying that he had no doubt that her day would come.
He said that Drogheda was in his very blood and bones and he called for everyone to work together to make Drogheda a better place to live and work.
“Drogheda needs a facelift” he said, “parts of it are in a terrible state with derelict buildings and litter being two major problems.”
“We can be as good as Killarney or Galway or Westport” he said and added that he would campaign to get a Town Manager based in and dedicated solely to the issues facing Drogheda
He commended the Fleadh Cheoil committee for all the hard work they put in to bring the Fleadh to Drogheda saying it would be a great showcase for Drogheda.
“It’s important though that we don’t rip off our visitors. People will make money and I wish them well but it is important that we project a good image of the town.”
Finally he praised his predecessor, Cllr. Pio Smith who he said had done an excellent job. “He is a credit to the town” he said.
