East Meath Councillor Stephen McKee says he is very happy that his recent motion calling on the next Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment to exempt compostable shopping bags from any tax levy has been fully endorsed by Meath County Council.

Local company, Boyne Valley Foods are one of the country’s major producer of compostable shopping bags.

“My Fianna Fail colleague in Drogheda, Councillor James Byrne is pushing this also on Louth County Council. The Boyne Valley Group is a major local employer and are leading the way in promoting plastic-free products” he said.

“We need to promote such innovation locally to safeguard local jobs into the future and at the same time promote environmentally-friendly products.
