Ecoscialist Workshop: Can capitalism solve the climate crisis?

Front Page

Gus MacDonald of Drogheda PBP.

The Drogheda branch of People Before Profit are holding what they call an Ecoscialist Workshop this Sunday, September 15 at 12.30 in McHughs pub on the Cord Road.

“We at PBP DROGHEDA would like to invite concerned members of the community to join us for an evening where we explain our stance on climate change” said spokesperson Gus McDonald.

“People Before Profit are the party that brought forward the bill to stop the further exploration of fossil fuels. The same one that FG have seen fit to attach a money message to. So much for their environmental concern!

“The system of capital that our government has foisted on the population is rapidly pushing us towards a catastrophic economic crash. As it does so, our heroic captains of industry have seen fit to hasten the destruction of the planet in the pursuit of the enhancement of wealth.

“All this points to the fact that not only is capitalism a failed economic ideology, a failed ecological ideology, but also morally bereft of compassion or concern for anything other than the bottom line!

“It's time we looked at the opportunity that the current economic and environmental situation has presented us.

“We can see the damage being done to both the environment and the economy. In fact we can feel it.

“It's time we talked about socialism with a view to the environment. We need to embrace the two as mutually as important as the other. Without a viable climate social justice is unachievable and vice versa!

On the night, we will be discussing the question: "Can capitalism solve the climate crisis?"

“A Manifesto for Ecosocialism: Strike, protest, act: The fight for a just transition.”
