Enjoying the Drogheda St. Patrick's Day parade in 2017.
This year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Drogheda has been cancelled.
The shock announcement was made this evening following a recent meeting of the local parade committee which cited a number of reasons for the decision.
Following a run of 33 years under the present committee it was unanimously decided to cancel the parade due to a lack of funding, spiraling insurance costs and health and safety issues.
Parade director Isabel San Roma commented: “I would like to thank the committee for the tremendous work that has been put in over many years. Most of them were there from the beginning and have given great service and dedication.

“I would also like to state that if anyone feels they are able to take up the reigns and set up a completely new group we will not stand in their way and will assist as much as we can to get going.”
At the meeting on January a 15 minute silence was held for the repose of the soul of the committee’s late treasurer Dessie Lynch, who served on the committee for 25 years.
