Local TD and lifelong Drogheda United fan Ged Nash has said that planning for the new municipal sports pitches on the north side of Drogheda is expected to proceed in 2025.
He said this commitment was given to him at a meeting today, Friday, 1st November, between local TDs and senior officials of Louth County Council.
Deputy Nash said;
“Cllr. Pio Smith and I have been pressing home for many years now the need to finally develop a series of Council-run pitches for Drogheda.

“With Phase 2 of the Port Access Route getting underway, this provides access both to the proposed new Drogheda United stadium and the lands adjacent for the development of our much-needed pitches.
“I requested an update on this at the meeting on Friday and the Council officials present said that planning for up to nine multi-code pitches will get underway next year.
“We are all hopeful of a positive decision from government on the application made by Drogheda United for funding for our new stadium under the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Programme.
“The building of the new stadium, with associated sports facilities owned by the Council alongside it would be the game changer we need for sports facilities in Drogheda, especially for football.
“In time, such a campus in my view should also include the development of for example a new swimming pool facility and indoor facilities for other sports to service Drogheda’s existing population but also the expanding, young population in North Drogheda.”
