Drogheda’s environmental organisations must work together towards a common goal

Michael O'Dowd has called on all environmental organisations in Drogheda to meet regularly at a forum under the auspices of the Office of the Mayor.

“This initiative aims to be non-political and to build on the excellent work already being done by such groups as Tidy Towns, Bullys Acre Restoration, Old Abbey Group, the recently formed Derelict Buildings Group, and the Drogheda Civic Trust” O’Dowd said.

He also emphasized the importance of including the Jobs Initiative, which is doing Trojan work in Council estates, to join this collective effort.

"We need to work together for the good of the town. The fightback against the downward spiral in the town will only work if we do that," O'Dowd stated.

“The forum will serve as a platform for these groups to share resources, ideas, and strategies to tackle environmental and community issues more effectively.

“By collaborating, the organizations can avoid duplication of efforts and ensure a more coordinated approach to improving Drogheda. The Mayor's Office will facilitate these meetings, providing a neutral space for open dialogue and planning.”

O'Dowd believes that through regular interaction, the groups can inspire each other and amplify their impact. He says he is confident that this united front will lead to more significant and sustainable progress for the town.

The call to action is for all organizations involved in environmental improvements to bring their unique strengths and work together towards a common goal: a better Drogheda for all its residents.

"I will propose this if elected to the Council in June," said O'Dowd added who is a co-founder of the Drogheda Civic Trust and its Chairman designate, due to take over in September.

“I am committed to the town's improvement and have an unwavering belief in the power of community collaboration.’’
