Drogheda United Football Club announced recently that their widely known and much respected General Manager, Hubert Murphy, would be departing his role to take up the newly created role of CEO at Drogheda Chamber of Commerce.

Today Drog's Chairperson Joanna Byrne marked Hubert’s last day at the helm of the popular football Club with a presentation in recognition of his steadfast commitment throughout his time in the post.

Speaking on Hubert’s departure, Byrne paid a passionate tribute to his contribution to the Club.

"It's fair to say the Chamber's gain, is indeed the Drog's loss. Hubert's unwavering dedication to the Club in recent years has contributed in a major way to the ongoing development of the Club.

“He has been instrumental in guiding the Club through challenging periods and all the time maintaining a calm approach to the day-to-day running of Drogheda United.

“He will go down in the history books for playing his part in the biggest transition the Club has ever experienced in our recent takeover.

“Hubert was an invaluable asset to the Drog’s management team, and a great ambassador for our Club.

“That said, Hubert is also a lifelong fan and I know we will still see plenty of him and his family and I've no doubt he won't be found wanting in continuing to support the Drog's as we evolve even further.

“As Hubert moves his skills into driving Drogheda forward with the business community, elevating it further as great town and city to work, live and play, Everybody at Drogheda United wish Hubert and his new team great success."
