Steel pencil bollards outside a school.
The Drogheda Cycling Group has asked for Louth County Council to move away from “plastic wands” as a solution for protecting vulnerable road users and roll out more resistant infrastructure across Drogheda.
The Group has used the opportunity of Louth County Council asking for submissions on their Noise Action Plan and Safe Routes to School Plan to up their ambition in terms of Active Travel across Drogheda.
Chairperson Noel Hogan said:
“We will continue to raise our voice and use all channels of communication with Louth and Meath councils to push for the rapid roll out of Active Travel infrastructure across Drogheda.

“The council have identified several roads across Drogheda as “noisy” and in our submission we proposed the rapid roll out of traffic calming infrastructure such as segregated cycle lanes and raised pedestrian crossings on all of these roads.
“We believe that areas near schools should be prioritised for action as children are among our most vulnerable road users.
“We have called for the use of metal “pencil bollards” instead of ineffective plastic wands outside Drogheda’s schools and now that the PANCR is open we have called for the council to act to reduce traffic congestion outside Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital as a priority.”
