The Laurence Shopping Centre was a hive of activity on Thursday last when Drogheda Credit Union officially opened their new Loans Branch on the lower mall in the centre with RTE’s financial guru Eoin McGee on hand to offer advice to whoever needed it.
The new Loan Branch will complement the other branches in Drogheda, Bettystown, Dunleer and Trim that are also under Drogheda Credit Union in terms of their lending.
It will operate as a more accessible “drop in” centre where members of the public can literally drop in to receive advice on obtaining a loan from the Drogheda Credit Union or information on their many other services.
Tom Kiely, CEO for Drogheda Credit Union commented: “We are delighted to be opening our Loan Branch for all our Credit Union members. We believe that this Loan Branch will provide an excellent confidential service under the management of Mark Smith, our senior loans officer.

“The lending team in this branch has considerable experience in all aspects of lending, including home improvement loans, mortgages, car loans, educational loans and many other loan products that your Credit Union offers to our members.”
Drogheda Credit Union celebrated 50 years of operation last year and in that half century has grown to become an important part of everyday life in the community of Drogheda.
Since its foundation in 1967 Drogheda Credit Union has gone from strength to strength and following a series of recent mergers it now has branches in Bettystown, Trim and most recently Dunleer and now boasts a membership of just over 50,000.
They have savings in excess of €287 million and currently have just over €55.8 million of those shares out on loan to members.
There can be very few families in the town that have not availed of a Credit Union loan, be it for home improvements, a motor loan, education fees, holiday or whatever at some time or another.
Quite apart from its financial services Drogheda credit Union is also very active in supporting the local community by sponsoring such events as the Fleadh Cheoil and running annual competitions like its children’s art competition and also its very popular member’s car draws.
This latest move reinforces the Credit Union’s commitment to the people and community of Drogheda.
