Drogheda based engineering company HPL Engineering has been nominated to represent the North East region in the “Small and Medium Enterprises” category of the 2021 Generation Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Awards.
Established in 2019, HPL have rapidly expanded to a workforce of more than 150 people and are currently operating across nine of Ireland’s largest scale engineering projects.
With over 40 apprentices, HPL Engineering are currently one of the largest apprentice employers in the Northeast, and have established a unique buddy system whereby apprentices are paired off with more experienced apprentices and assessors.

“HPL Engineering are extremely privileged to be recognised and nominated for the 2021 Generation Apprenticeship Employer of the Year. This award has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and to be part of it through a very challenging 2021 is extremely humbling. The 71 nominees, represent more than 37,000 employees, across three categories: micro companies; small and medium and large enterprises.
Speaking ahead of the awards ceremony which will take place virtually in December, Dr Mary-Liz Trant, Executive Director, SOLAS said:
“Following a very challenging 20 months for everyone, we look forward to celebrating the resilience and vitality of these companies, and the critical role played by apprenticeship in the social and economic life of the country.”
Three other companies in the North East region have also been nominated. They are, Coolrite (Cavan), McAree Engineering (Monaghan) and the Slieve Russell Hotel (Cavan).
Warmly congratulating the nominees, North East Regional Skills Forum Manager, Ray Murphy, said:
“Well done to all the nominees. Each company has dedicated itself to skills through apprenticeship to support collective and committed development. Profiling their approach can only inspire others to set similar foundations for the long-term encouragement and development of talent.”
