Drogheda company Irish Breeze secures €25m deal in China

Drogheda based company Irish Breeze has signed a major deal with China’s largest e-commerce market and retailer, and hopes to achieve sales worth over €25 million of its Water Wipes products within five years. 

Irish Breeze which, is under the managemant of Edward McCloskey, is one of four Enterprise Ireland backed companies which have today announced new strategic partnerships with Chinese partners.

The deals were announced by Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD who is leading a six-day Enterprise Ireland trade mission to China, alongside Enterprise Ireland CEO Julie Sinnamon, at the inaugural China International Import Exhibition (CIIE), the world’s largest trade exhibition.

Irish Breeze is the industry leading provider of dermatologically friendly skincare wipes Water Wipes, has signed a deal with, China’s largest ecommerce market and retailer hosting more than 20,000 international brands.

WaterWipes has set ambitious sales targets of €25 million) within five years, while Irish Breeze, the parent company of WaterWipes has ambitions to become one of’s key corporate strategic partners.

Welcoming the deals announced today, Minister Humphreys said: “The breadth and scale of these four landmark signings is a testament to the hard work undertaken by Irish companies and the support offered by the Government through Enterprise Ireland.

“Our presence at CIIE demonstrates Ireland’s commitment to China and the wider Asia Pacific region, and I am delighted that we had such positive outcomes from our engagement at the event. I look forward to further developing these links with our Chinese partners in the coming years.”

Speaking from Hong Kong, Will O’Toole who is the Vice Principal for Head of Medical Solutions at Irish Breeze and the person responsible for business in the Far East told Drogheda Life that it was fantastic recognition for a product that was borne out of the hard work and perseverance on the part of the MD Edward McCloskey and other members of the McCloskey family and staff at the company.

He said that Water Wipes are a very special product in that they are the world’s purest wipes and they are taking the market by storm.

He said it was great news for the whole Irish Breeze team, for the town of Drogheda and Ireland but he said it was too early to say whether it would lead to jobs being created.

“It’s too early to call” he said. “Were working with JD.Com on a long term strategic plan and the (Drogheda) plant has a lot of capacity – it’s the biggest plant of its type in the world.”

In a statement today local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, warmly welcomed the major achievement and commercial success of Irish Breeze at what is the world’s largest trade exhibition. 

“In particular I wish to congratulate the McCloskey family and all the staff of Irish breeze on their hard work and enterprise. I hope that this announcement can strengthen their global footprint and increase their already strong workforce. 

“Given the fact that Brexit is looming large, it is exceptionally important that Irish companies are also looking at new markets further afield and in particular the strongly emerging economies with huge potential in Asia.” 

Other Irish companies to announce deals from China today were:

 Reagecon Diagnostics Ltd which has finalised a distribution agreement with Beijing Thorigin over a five-year period, worth a total value of €10 million.

Solvotrin Therapeutics, a manufacturer of new and innovative healthcare and medicinal products has completed an exclusive distribution agreement with Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical for over €15m per year over 3 years.

Air disinfection specialist Novaerus has secured a lucrative agreement with Hangzhou Door Import & Export, with €760,000 product purchasing over 3-year period.

Other Irish companies showcasing under the Irish Advantage banner include; Hostelworld, Glen Dimplex, Emerald Green Baby, Cartoon Saloon, PM Group, Orbis and PPI.
