Clarinetist Emma Johnson who will give a concert with pianist John Lenehan in St. Peter's Church of Ireland in Drogheda on Friday next, 14th of September.
Now in its seventh year, Drogheda Classical Music has once again lined up a season of exceptional artists. Three of this year’s concerts will be exclusive to Drogheda and not part of national tours.
For the opening concert on Friday 14 September at 7:30pm in St Peter’s Church of Ireland, one of the great clarinet and piano duos, Emma Johnson and John Lenehan will perform in Drogheda for the very first time.
Winner of the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, Emma Johnson also won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1991 which led to her New York City recital debut at Carnegie hall. She has gone on to become one of the UK's biggest selling classical artists, having sold over half a million discs sold worldwide.
Pianist John Lenehan is equally regarded and a regular performer with the world’s leading orchestras. Although one of his major claims to fame is that his mother originally hailed from Drogheda. As a duo, they have made multiple recordings together and regularly feature on playlists on RTÉ lyric FM and Classic FM.

For this very special opening concert, the duo will perform romantic works by Clara Schumann, Brahms and Poulenc plus some jazz-inspired pieces by Bernstein and Gershwin and will include a show-stopper fantasy based on the themes of Verdi’s famous La Traviata.
This is a wonderful opportunity to experience these world-renowned classical musicians in the intimate setting of St Peter’s Church of Ireland.
