Members of the LOVEDROGHEDA BID working group.
In a development that will hopefully lead to a boost for the twon and attract more visitors, Drogheda has been awarded a Purple Flag in recognition of the quality of its evening and night time economy.
The LOVEDROGHEDA BID working group received the welcome notification yesterday (September 13) from the Association of Town and City Management.
The Purple Flag is the gold standard for a night time economy. Assessors visited Drogheda in August and assessed safety and well-being; movement – how people get around and home safely; vibrancy and variety of offering; a sense of place and what is unique, and how the night time community in Drogheda work together.
“Drogheda could not have achieved this award without the full engagement and support of a large number of Drogheda’s citizens and organisations, we very much appreciate and value this collaboration”, said Valerie Sherlock, General Manager, Westcourt Hotel and Chairperson of the Purple Flag Group.

“We knew we had a good night time offering, and this award reaffirms our belief. It also provides us with a structure to further grow and develop our tourism offering and our evening and night time economy.” Said Collette Nugent President of the Drogheda Vintners.
Geoff Fitzpatrick of the LOVEDROGHEDA BID Working Group said “The Purple Flag award was on our bucket list as part of our LOVEDROGHEDA Business Improvement District Proposal. This is a great boost for our proposed BID project and another good reason to vote YES in the current plebiscite.”
The formal awards ceremony will be held in November 2019.
