Deputy Fergus O'Dowd.
Drogheda Fine Gael TD, Fergus O'Dowd, has said the ongoing delays on the new LMETB Headquarters building project are “disgraceful and inexplicable”, and are putting the overall project at serious risk.
O'Dowd’s statement comes following receipt of a new parliamentary response from his colleague the Minister for Education, Joe McHugh TD, on the project.
Following approval of the retendering process in June of 2018 by the then Minister, Richard Bruton TD, it was indicated that the project would progress following numerous setbacks.
“This has simply not happened” O’Dowd said, adding that the response he received this week has shown the project costs have now reached €260,000 in design, planning and survey fees.

Despite this extra expenditure, Deputy O’Dowd said, “We are still no further on nearly a full calendar year later. This is wholly unacceptable and the plans are now being revisited once again to discuss capacity.
“Every month this project is delayed, building costs are escalating so I’m calling on all stakeholders to expedite the plans and get the project to a shovel ready stage.
“The only positive part of the update is that the Minister has confirmed the project will proceed in Drogheda” O’Dowd said and added that “…there is no doubt that, when complete, it will be a very welcome addition to our town’s expanding educational footprint.”
