Ray Madden and Mel Gibney with two local Gardaí at yesterday's installation of the new defibrillator outisde Madden's Centra in Termonfeckin yesterday.
We’ve all done it, arrived at the door of a shop only to realise you’ve left your mask at home.
Early on in the pandemic Ray Madden and Mel Gibney and their staff at Maddens Centra store in Termonfeckin saw this happening more and more often.
So they decided to supply their customers with masks at the door and, in exchange, asking them for a €1 donation to charity.
As the pandemic wore on, the “mask money” mounted up and Ray and Mel decided that, because they are a community shop and the money was donated by members of the local community, that it should be used for the benefit of the community.

They hit upon the idea of paying for a defibrillator to be installed outside the shop premises so they contacted Jim Shields of the East Meath Defibrillator Unit.
“Jim and his team supplied the defibrillator and it was fitted yesterday” Ray told Drogheda Life. “I’d like to commend them on their vital service.”
Ray also said that all of the staff at the shop will be trained in how to use the defibrillator and he will also be paying for 10 to 15 local people in the area to be trained also.
