Councillors have agreed a motion from Cllr. Paul Bell to ask Bus Éireann to extend the Drogheda town bus service to include Sundays, at the very least during the run up to Christmas.
Proposing his motion Cllr. Bell said that while Bus Éireann offers an excellent toen service, unfortunately it is operating only six days a week whereas business and shopping is taking place seven days.
He suggested that they consider a reduced service on Sundays to see how it works out.
“Some of the services people wish to access such as retail parks are in outlying areas of the town and many people have no other way of accessing them than by bus” he said.

Cllr. Paddy McQuillan agreed saying: “this (service) is very important, especially in the run up to Christmas, many people are totally dependent on public transport.
Councillor Michelle Hall said that she was shocked to hear that there was no town service on Sundays. She also suggested that the bus service should also extend to public holidays.
