Councillor's frustration at traffic light sequencing on Ballymakenny Road

There’s nothing more annoying when you’re driving than to be stopped at red lights when there is nothing coming from the other side of a junction.

Independent councillor Kevin Callan says that traffic lights on the Ballymakenny Road near the Northern Cross Route roundabout are operating on timers which are delaying traffic on the new route.

He says  that in recent days a large number of people living and working in the area have been in touch with him and his running mate  Cllr Declan Power flagging the issue of the delay.

“We are also having reports ignoring the lights and passing through after sitting waiting when there is no traffic exiting or entering the estates on either side” he said.

“I am requesting the council activate sensors on these lights as a matter of urgency to ensure they activate when there is a need and not on a timer.

“Whenever the area is quiet, this is an inconvenience but when we have this fantastic new Northern Cross Route to alleviate traffic congestion and delay, these lights are contributing to delays and the build-up of traffic which can be easily avoided.”
