Sheltering from the rain under the eaves of the Thatch at the Donore Road.
Louth County Council and Bus Éireann are in ongoing discussions about replacing the bus stop at the Thatch on the Donore Road and moving it further up the road closer to the nearby garage.
The move comes after a motion from Mayor Paul Bell was passed at the Council.
Bus Éireann regional management have met with Officials from Louth County Council on the issue and both organisations have agreed on the provision of a much needed bus bay about which Bus Éireann will talk to Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Louth Council have advised however that there is no funding available for a bus bay
“While I am encouraged by the responses of both Bus Éireann and Louth County Council the devil as always remains in the detail” Paul Bell said.

“Funding is the key issue which requires attention. While I am interested in learning of the costs involved in constructing a proper functional bus bay, my motivation is on pedestrian and all road users safety in the immediate area of the thatch.”
“Remember we have two heavily utilised bus stops at that location one facing east in the direction of the town and one facing west for commuters heading to Dublin and Dundalk.”
Bell also gave a commitment to work hard to deliver on this project.
