Councillor Declan Power.
The recent application by Eircom to erect an 18m high free standing 5G communications structure in the picturesque seaside village of Clogherhead has been put on hold, for now at least.
According to local Independent Councillor Declan Power the Eircom application was declared invalid by Louth Co. Council on Monday of last week, July 20th, which was the deadline for objections and submissions, because the site notice was not on display when the planner visited the proposed site.
Thirty three individuals and organisations had submitted objections to the structure many of them citing the major visual impact on the Village' which is greatly dependent the tourism industry.
Others said the proposed structure would be unsightly like another similar communications mast at the Garda Station that is maintained by the department of justice and the Three Network.

The proposed mast was also backing onto a brand new mobile home and caravan park which "could would have an effect on the distribution and sales of those sites and in tandem have an impact with our local bars and restaurants" according to Cllr. Power.
"This was a moral victory for the people of Clogherhead and only just bides time” he said. “My assumption is that Eircom will submit another application and we'll all have to re-submit our objections."
All those who submitted objections will receive full refunds.
