Increased trade, investment and employment links between Drogheda and India were all discussed at a meeting yesterday between Drogheda and District Chamber and the First Secretary at the Embassy of India, Mr. Murugaraj Dhamodaran. 

Part of an introduction to the town for the secretary, who is responsible for Political, Commerce, Education and Press & Information, the President of Drogheda Chamber, Hubert Murphy outlined the huge potential that now exists by the Boyneside for major international firms to locate. 

Mr Dhamodaran spoke about joint collaboration in Drogheda and said the embassy was very open to talks, with renewable energy one of their most successful endeavours. Given the enormity of the Indian market, potential for local firms to make the most of chamber-led links is significant. 

"It is hoped that local firms will be part of future trade missions to India and indeed, if there are firms interested in learning more about the collaboration, they can contact the chamber for full details," said Chamber Vice President Linda Ennis. 

Mr. Dhamodaran learned much about Drogheda's future plans and the key developments around the Northern Cross Route. 

"A big issue for many firms looking to locate in an area is suitable housing and amenities. Drogheda is developing those as part of future plans for the northern environs and soon it will be the place to live, work and play in this country," Hubert Murphy added.
