News from the official Fleadh Cheoil 2019 is thin on the ground and we can only assume that, like the proverbial swan, the serenity above water contrasts with hectic activity below to keep things moving forward.
First out of the traps this week with their own Fleadh Cheoil programme of events are the Grey Goose who have put together their own pop-up music festival which they’re calling Ceili Picnic offering something unique during Fleadh Cheoil 2019.
Ceili Picnic, which will take place from Sunday 11th to Sunday 18th August right in the heart of Drogheda at Duke Street carpark, is a colourful and vibrant festival aimed at families and music lovers seeking to experience the best in Irish culture, music and entertainment.
Daily activities include family friendly entertainment such as face painting, story-telling, teddy bear’s picnic and music lessons, with good food and drink on tap. The unique bandstand (or Jig Rig as they like to call it!) will feature local and international musicians daily.

On Tuesday 13th August the headline acts are Ryan Sheridan, Moxie and Blackwater Ceili Band while on Wednesday 14th August Beoga, fresh from their support slots with Ed Sheeran, along with Ryan McMullan will set the stage alight.
Tickets for these headline events cost €20 but at other times Ceili Picnic offers free admission, making it an accessible and integral part of the Fleadh experience.
“We want visitors to experience our colourful, vibrant, bold and fun festival, in a safe, contemporary and family friendly environment” a spokesperson said.
“With a line-up of traditional, modern, party and ballad music running all week, there’s something for everyone at Ceili Picnic. Start planning your attendance now. We can’t wait to see you there!”
