Councillor Kevin Callan.
Councillor Kevin Callan has asked for better street lighting and for the verges at the Cement Road to be cut back after a woman said she was assaulted there last weekend.
Councillor Callan told yesterday evening's Drogheda Borough Meeting that a resident of the North Road had informed him that he came across a young woman sitting on the side of the road in a state of distress and shock early one morning last weekend.
“This local resident informed me that the woman told him she had been assaulted. The emergency services were called and the Gardaí and Ambulance were on-site within minutes.
“Whilst it is unclear if the woman was assaulted on the Cement Road or was dropped there, we need to ensure that the Road verges and lighting are clear and operational”.

Engineer Mark Johnson told Councillor Callan that the Council would examine street lighting and the verges of the road which can be cleared back.
Callan thanked the Council by saying that this walking route is extremely popular and needs to be made as safe and lit as possible.
He also thanked the emergency services and the Good Samaritan who stopped to help the person over the weekend. Councillor Callan urged people to remain vigilant and to keep safe when out and about.
