Sinn Féin Councillor Eric Donovan has welcomed a new bus service from the Tullybrook Estate and the other new developments on the Old Slane Road in Drogheda into the town but warns that it could be 12-18 months before it happens.
Cllr Donovan said: “There has been a huge development of social housing in this area and with new residents currently being allocated their homes it is imperative that a bus service is now provided to facilitate them getting into the town to access shops and essential services.
He pointed out however that currently, there is no infrastructure (a roundabout) to allow a bus to turn so the service cannot be implemented.
“I have been contacted by residents who are concerned about being so far out of town without transport and more homes are being built in the area” he said.

“As stipulated in their contract, the contractors will build a new roundabout in 12-18 months which will facilitate a turnaround for a bus to service the area and a bus stop will be provided when that work is completed.”
Cllr Donovan also said “Lagan Homes are currently building new homes further down on the Old Slane Road and have agreed to build a footpath in the short-term from GortMell to provide safe access to the Tullybrook Estate. I am pleased to say this is under construction and should be completed and available for use in the next 2-3 weeks.”
