It was a dream start to 2025 for Boyne Hockey Club with league wins at the weekend across the club.

The under 14 boys put in an impressive afternoon of matches as they saw off stiff competition from across the province. The final game was a nail-biting 1v1 against a very strong YMCA team (who had previously beaten Boyne 3-1 in the group stages).

In the end, it was Boyne’s day as they become the Shield Winners at the Leinster Hockey event in Portrane on Sunday 19 January. To make the win even sweeter, Boyne Hockey’s Ben Deasy was awarded player of the tournament.

Other wins over the weekend included the sixth-class team who made their trip to Bray worthwhile, the Senior Twos and the Inters Division 8. While, at home, the minors held their own with a nil-nil result against a very tense and competitive Weston.

League matches continue over the coming weeks with a packed schedule of home and away games as we inch closer to the end of the season. The indoor tournaments continue at Gormanston Park with the annual u16s Girls and Boys matches on Sunday 16 February.

Boyne Hockey welcomes new members throughout the season. Fun, fitness and friendships await. If you have a primary school-aged child who is looking for a new interest, why not give hockey a try. The club offers upskilling to players and coaches throughout the year. Contact boynehockeyclub@gmail.com for more information
