BFRRS divers help raise runaway jeep from water at Clogherhead pier

The runaway jeep is lifted out of the water at Clogherhead Harbour on Monday last.

A Clogherhead fisherman got the shock of his life on Monday evening when his expensive 4x4 vehicle mysteriously rolled off the pier and into the water.

A dive unit from the Boyne Fishermen's Rescue Service was requested to attend Clogherhead Harbour to help retrieve the valuable jeep from the water.

A BFRRS spokesperson said that their underwater unit was immediately despatched to Clogherhead pier to assist in the recovery of the runaway vehicle. 

Members of the dive unit managed to secure lifting points to the vehicle, then exited the water so that a crane could commence the extraction, nobody was in the vehicle or injured.

It is not known how the vehicle became free and rolled into the water. The owner of the vehicle could not be contacted.
