On a bright sunny Sunday afternoon at Drogheda Grammar School, Boyne Hockey Club hosted the first annual Battle of the Boyne Minors Hockey Tournament.
While outside formal competition season, these friendly matches are a great training ground for all players. The teams donned their club colours and proudly represented their teams in what was as much a festival as it was a competition.
Both the third place play-off match and finals ended in 1v1 shoot outs - always nail biting for those playing and those watching. Skerries Hockey Club went home with the Battle Shield, narrowly beating Boyne's own Div 1A minors in the finals.
Dublin North clinched third place from Naas in a hard fought play off. The weatherman played his part which meant the Disco Tent, picnic BBQ and games were all enjoyed in full.

The summer vibes continue on Saturday 10 May with a focus on the junior end of the club. The primary school teams mix things up to compete in an end of season battle against one another while the ultimate challenge, and real crowd pleaser, sees the coaches versus the kids. Who will be victorious? Come along and experience the fun while enjoying a BBQ, coffee, ice-cream and hopefully plenty of sunshine.
Finally, on Sunday 11 May, the u12s participate in the inaugural indoor tournament at Gormanston College, sponsored by Progressive Credit Unions. The action kicks off at 10am with the boys and girls from Boyne and beyond compete to be champions.
Boyne Hockey receives grant funding from Louth County Council and Meath County Council and has annual sponsorship from Irish Cement, Landy Muldoon, Hibernia Steel and Hayes & Associates.
