Attempted armed robbery at Tesco filling station

Gardaí are investigating an attempted armed robbery which took place at the Tesco filling station, on the Donore Road, Drogheda last night.

At about ten to eight a man in his twenties entered the premises carrying a firearm. He approached the cashier and demanded money and cigarettes. The security system was immediately activated and the man then ran from the store empty handed.

CCTV footage shows that the man was in the shop for just over 15 seconds. He had watched the shop from a nearby building and waited until there were no customers before making his move.

On leaving the filling station, he ran in direction of the IDA Business Park, running across the busy Donore Road. He was wearing a black balaclava, black jacket, black gloves, navy tracksuit bottoms, black runners and was carrying a black Nike rucksack. He is described as of slim build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches in height, and in his late teens/early twenties.
