Magical transformations in new art exhibition at Droichead Arts Centre

"Like alchemists of old, transmuting base metals like lead into precious gold and silver. That's how I see these artists,” said David Newton as he opened the Assemble, Transform, Transmute exhibition at Droichead Art Centre.

"They assemble the dross of everyday life, images from the popular media, transform by selecting and juxtaposing, and transmute into stunning new artworks that use colour and poetic techniques like repetition and metaphor to interpret and comment on society.

Laura Gramzow overwhelms with her giant painted collages of familiar images from past and present, Emma Ray embroiders images from recent events onto items of clothing uses other clothing to comment on aspects like health.
