The Old Drogheda Society held a small ceremony in Millmount Tower on Friday last to commemorate the anniversary of the famous Battle of Waterloo which took place on 18 June 1815.
In the basement of the tower there is a beautiful display of the battle site at Waterloo.
Called “The Irish Story, Waterloo 1815” the display has been built to scale and all aspects of the layout , the buildings and positioning of the different regiments were researched in detail over the last two years.
The exhibition commemorates the participation of Irish on both sides of the battle. The Mayor of Drogheda, Councillor James Byrne, opened the commemoration and was accompanied by many of those who made this exhibition possible.

The miniature model of the battlefield and the buildings were designed by Peter O’Leary, and the landscape was constructed by Noel Bailey with the artwork on the set by Gina Petrea.
The Miniature figures were kindly donated by Pat Fullam who was aided by Waterloo History Consultant Dr. Peter Molloy of Maynooth University who placed the regiments of soldiers from each side of the conflict in their positions on the site according to the records of the day.
Present restrictions prevent the opening of the exhibition public at the moment but it is hoped that it will be opened soon.
