Now in its fifth year, the Boyne Swim organised by Drogheda Triathlon Club will take place on Saturday 16th June as part of the Irish Maritime Festival.

The Aura Boyne Swim has now become one of the premier open water swims in Ireland attracting more than 200 open water swimmers from the island of Ireland, the UK and Europe.

The Drogheda Port Company came up with the idea for the swim a number of years ago and it has gone from strength to strength ever since.

As part of their preparation for the Aura Boyne Swim the club had a trial swim last week. In perfect conditions 13 swimmers including three juniors, nine - year old Boann Rock-Tivnan, 12 year old Chloe Lennon and Gillian Farrelly 17 - swam the 2.7K course accompanied by Boyne Fishermens Rescue, Louth Water Safety and kayaker Andy Wilson.

The swimmers completed the course at a leisurely pace enjoying a view of Drogheda not seen by many but be assured that the town looks magnificent from the river.

All swimmers agreed that the Aura Boyne Swim is definitely the best and if you haven’t signed up yet you should go to and do so before 18.00 on Friday.

See you on Saturday, come and support the swimmers and the festival.
