The Run of The Country – a local charitable Motorcycle Run is revving up once more to launch what will be their 9th annual charity run on Saturday 29th September to raise funds for Malta Services Drogheda.
To date the Run has raised over €83,500 for local charities and this is the third year for Malta Services to benefit. Last year the event surpassed all expectations with the big hearted bikers raising a whopping €11,571.72 which was just fantastic!
The Run Of The Country is now looking for 50 motorcyclists to sign up to September’s event. Recruitment of riders for the 2018 run is now open to all bikers in the local and wider motorcycle fraternity to get involved.
In the last eight years the Run Of the Country has criss-crossed many beautiful scenic roads throughout Ireland, covering over 52,750 miles and raising much needed funds to help support local charities over the last eight years.

From Ballybay to Portlaoise, Wicklow Town to Kinnegad with Roscommon, Longford and Virginia. Michael McCormick, the event organiser has promised this year’s event will build on the previous runs and will have a route to suit both the novice and more experienced bikers.
The Run Of The Country Charity Motorbike Tour is a thrilling one day, 250 mile charity motorcycle tour to an unknown destination. To add interest there is a Poker Run game with a prize pot in excess of €1,000 sponsored by Height for Hire and Kennedy Motorcycles. Some say It’s the best little charity motorcycling event in Ireland!
Malta Services Drogheda provides supports and services to over 100 adults with intellectual disabilities. The level of support and service provision differs from person to person. Malta Services run a number of different educational and community programmes, as well as offering support to people who choose to work in the open labour market. All of these combine to empower people to live a full life of their choosing within their community, each person can make their own contribution to Irish society and culture.
Michael McCormick, the organiser of the run, said “We have a great route this year and the destination will be revealed at about 3pm on Saturday 29th at check point 4.”
John Igoe, Acting Services Director of Malta Services, said “Malta Services are absolutely delighted to be involved with the bikers once more and everyone is really looking forward to seeing the variety of motor bikes on the day”.
Principal sponsors of the event are local businesses Height for Hire and Kennedy Motorcycles along with Tuites Butchers.
Harry McArdle, owner of Height For Hire said. “I look forward to this event every year. I love the bikers and all the banter from the road trips.”
Kennedy Motorcycles has supported the event from the start and Jimmy Kennedy commented “This is BIKER BLISS. A motorbike mystery tour, 250 miles of twisty roads, super prizes, great dinner a few scoops and a good night’s sleep. Best days biking every year.”
Tuites Butchers has provided the meats that give the riders a hearty hot breakfast, a great start for the tour. “These guys do great work for our community and they appreciate a good traditional breakfast” remarked Eddie Tuite.
Registration fee for the event is €70 to cover accommodation and €180 sponsorship is requested from each of the riders in the run. The event takes place on Saturday 29th September 2018, leaving Malta Services Fair Street between 9:00am and 10:00am.
