A survey carried out by recruitment firm Osborne, published today, has shown that the recruitment market is doing better than expected in certain sectors, with 33% of firms still actively seeking new staff.
The survey, which presented the findings of a survey of senior Irish business leaders, also found that 46% of firms plan to hire new staff before the end of 2020 while 39% of firms have hired new staff since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Osborne’s survey also examined the reopening plans of firms and found that 83% of firms will continue to offer remote working to staff once they reopen.
Of the businesses surveyed, 42% plan to reopen in June, 14% in July, 22% in August, 11% in September and 11% in October or later.

Commenting on the findings of the survey, Osborne’s owner and Chief Executive Shona McManus said; ‘’the results of the survey show that the recruitment market is holding up better than expected in certain sectors including healthcare, ICT, pharmaceuticals and medical device manufacturing. There are still opportunities out there for both staff and employers and this is a good time to be hiring. At Osborne we have advising clients that they need to have the right people on board to bounce back and reopen.’’
Shona went on to say; ‘’we are seeing the beginning of a major new trend in the workplace as 83% of firms will be offering remote working after they reopen. The feedback we are getting from our clients is that many employers and employees are seeing the benefits of remote working and want to continue to work from home after the pandemic. Remote working may be something that firms will have to offer in order to attract staff in the future.’’
The survey of 218 business leaders was conducted on the week of Monday 25th May 2020.
